Construction Waste Management - 6 Tips for a More Effective Construction...

6 Ideas for a More Productive Waste Management System

The construction waste management system in any construction company is the set of internal procedures which staff must follow to manage the waste produced on every site, in accordance with company policy.

The Construction Waste Management System, once neglected and even seen as a waste of time, is now a central part of doing business for construction firms.

In this video we provide our tips for raising the effectiveness, and the benefits, from any construction company waste management system.

Keep reading this for our 6 tips:

1 - Lower the Amount of Produced Waste

Waste reduction is the most effective technique. It has for long been practised on construction sites.

For example, demolition rubble has always been used beneath site roads and as non-compressible backfill.

The big win here is to extend this philosophy further, and find site uses for other demolition materials.

2 - Efficiently Separate Waste Types and keep materials clean for maximum recycling value.

3 - Recycle Building Materials which can't be re-used without processing.

The recycling example which has seen rapid advances in the last 10 years, is the crushing of reinforced concrete to produce aggregate for new concrete.

4 - When designing new buildings construction companies should ensure that their designers consider how the building or other structure will be easily demolished with maximum materials re-use.

Looking ahead beyond that is the consideration of how recycling will be enhanced at the end of the life of the structures built.

5 - Ensure that the company selects Eco-friendly materials.

6 - Keep One Step Ahead of Legislation

The circular economy is coming.

The most successful companies will be those that look ahead and develop the methods to lead with innovations implementing the circular economy.

Much better to do that than trying to catch-up after new regulations are introduced

What does recycling waste mean?

What Does Recycling Mean?

Recycling, is the latest practice for promoting Green living.

Recycling helps in doing the following things in this regard;

1. It prevents excessive waste of useful materials.

3. It reduces energy use.

4. It reduces pollution of air and water.

5. It reduces the need for waste disposal to landfills.

6. It is a good way to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

What can be recycled?

Many products are recyclable such as paper, plastic, scrap metals, glass, textiles, and electronics.

Why Is Recycling So Important?

Along with the appalling fact, that globally the amount of waste is increasing year on year.

The average household in the United Kingdom produces more than 1 tonne of waste each year which is a shocking amount.

This equates to around 31 million tonnes a year in the United Kingdom, this is the equivalent to the weight of three and a half million double-decker buses.

When all this waste ends up in the landfills, it becomes a cause of air, soil and water pollution because they contain various harmful substances.

Therefore, it is really important to dispose of the waste in an appropriate way (i.e. recycling).

Apartment Recycling of Waste Its Not Easy! Recycling Collection in Flats

As 88% of all brand-new residential or commercial properties in London, are flats. Plus, well as the portion of individuals in London living in flats is most likely to increase to nearly 50% by 2030, we can not overlook the obstacles that homeowners and also neighbourhood authorities are encountering in raising recycling from these residences.

For me, the start of a job is constantly collecting the information. This creates an excellent basis to begin thinking of enhancements or treatments. Information on the types of waste segregated in various recycling districts varies, and frequently requires some effort to obtain; it could be incomplete and also spread throughout various spread sheets as well as data sources.

This is very confusing for the flat dweller.

The collection information, that is, the variety of containers when they are accumulated, is commonly held by a specific group at the regional authority.

But regrettably, the needed information such as precise areas and also accessibility to the containers is harder to discover.

This could in some cases to the residents, appear practically like an urban-legend safeguarded by the flat's rubbish collection crew.

This experience has actually offered me a brand-new degree of understanding and also compassion for these locals and also particularly those that attempt to do the appropriate point.

I will certainly never ever once more claim that recycling is very easy. It is very easy unless you reside in a flat.

Fire dangers, chutes and also went down kerbs are likewise unbelievably crucial to find out about if any type of adjustments or enhancements are to be made to the solution stipulation securely.

Nevertheless, I assume that we have to go additionally in recognizing the settings where we are anticipating locals to make use of recycling solutions.

The look of a block and also estate, the illumination as well as the tidiness of the website are all helpful little details that will certainly aid us make enhancements.

I would certainly additionally perform empirical study to see just how homeowners walk around the recycling bays, and also exactly what facilities as well as services are offered in the location where citizens are most likely to be willing to bring their recyclables.

We were eager to utilize one of the most modern technology consisting of geo-coding the setting of the containers as well as services in addition to taping the courses the homeowners are most likely to take.

We've taken numerous photos as well as left no rock un-turned for the search of sign boards, as well as collecting various other information on exactly how citizens find out what waste types must be placed in each one of the recycling bins.

Throughout this study it struck me just how much flat owners are in fact asked to do to be able to re-use. In several circumstances they have to step down numerous flights of stairways.

Also these are usually to the rear of the block which is no place near their typical path out. Also, it is frequently dark throughout the winter season as well as at nights.

Contrast that to the kerbside resident experience where waste and also recycling is lifted out for them from the front of their residence.

Furthermore, the containers are usually complimentary if new ones are needed when the become damaged.

Also the instructions on how you can make use of the various recycling solutions abounds.

This experience has actually provided me a brand-new degree of understanding as well as compassion for these homeowners in flats, as well as particularly those that attempt to be conscientious.

I will certainly never ever once more state that recycling is very easy.

It is not really so very easy to recycle, if you reside in a flat!

Family Waste Management - Recycling at Home and Our 'Recycling Nazi'

Nobody ever talks about what I call family waste management. That's about how recycling at home gets done, and I explain about our 'Recycling Nazi' which is of course my hubby!

We do our best to collect as many items as possible, in our daily lives, for recycling purposes. With that in mind, we keep a large blue recycle bin in our kitchen for that very purpose.

However, not everyone in our family is as diligent about recycling, as my husband is. We secretly call him the 'Recycling Nazi'. He rules our recycling with an iron fist. Woe to the person who mistakenly throws an non-recyclable into recycle bin!

My husband will hunt that person down and they will most certainly pay - getting a long lecture about taking the time to differentiate between items and how irresponsible it is to throw just any old thing into the recycling bin.

Of course in line with his commitment to recycling, he is also the one tasked with the responsibility of dragging the recycle bins out to the curb and retrieving them again, once the contents have been collected. Again, it seems my husband is the only one truly committed to the recycling schedule.

The collectors have a very hit-and-miss approach to gathering from the green bins and they'll often come earlier than scheduled or not at all. This sets my husband to scrambling trying to get our bin to the curb before the truck leaves, or conversely grumbling to himself, when our recycle bin sits at the curb uncollected for days on end.

Of course, my husbands efforts are well-placed, and no one can slag him for his commitment to the environment. In fact, all of us should really take a lesson from him. I'm sure if we all worked together, it would make the entire process run more smoothly for everyone involved. Unfortunately, today's pace of life is so hectic.

Whether at home, work or school, many people barely have time to think, let alone to take the time to sort through their recyclables and place them in the properly labelled recycle bin. However, if we can all try to think more long term, and think about where our planet will be in a few years from now, it just might make squeeze in a little extra time in our day for recycling.

In our house, we all have made more of an effort recently. My husband has given us several reminders about what is recyclable and what is really just garbage. He's also given us lesson on giving containers a quick rinse before placing them in the recycle bin and cautioned us about removing any sharp edges on our containers.

Every little bit helps, and feel that we are making some positive improvement in doing our part for the planet.

Although we may joke about my hubby's over zealous recycling mania, for the good of the planet he, and thousands like him, will (like it or not!) help save the planet.

Nobody ever talks about what I call "family waste management". It's really very important and it's about the nitty-gritty day to day life-stress. It's how recycling at home gets done, and I hope I have explained to you, in an interesting way, about our 'Recycling Nazi'. That's my hubby!
